Ji-min Shin, a graduate student in the Department of Applied Plasma Engineering (integrated master's and doctoral program, supervising professor Seo Hee), received the Poster Excellence Award at the recently held '2021 Autumn Conference of the Korean Association for Radiation Protection.'
Ji-min Shin presented a paper titled "Verification of Monte Carlo Simulation Model for Dual-Particle Detection with NaIL Detector" and was recognized for the research outcomes.
This study used the recently developed NaIL detector, capable of simultaneously measuring gamma rays and neutrons, to measure various sources and background radiation. Based on these measurements, the study verified the computational simulation model of the NaIL detector developed using MCNP Monte Carlo simulation techniques.
The measurement experiment results demonstrated the reliability of the detector's simulation model for simultaneous dual-particle detection and received favorable reviews.
It is expected that, based on the simulation model developed in this study, various tests for simultaneous neutron and gamma-ray measurements will be possible.
Ji-min Shin stated, "In future research, I plan to verify the sensitivity of the NaIL detector to various radioactive materials."
