Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) College of Engineering had 18 students selected as industry–university scholarship recipients under LG Display's talent selection program, the 'LGenius Program'.
The program is an employment-linked initiative designed to secure and develop outstanding talent in the display field at an early stage. It selects outstanding engineering students before graduation and grants benefits such as scholarships and practical training provided by the company.
JBNU has been consistently implementing this program through an agreement with LG Display since 2010. To date, 117 students have secured employment at LG Display through the program.
JBNU, which had produced 3–4 successful candidates each year, produced 18 industry–university scholarship recipients this year, demonstrating the competitiveness of its engineering students. This is expected to yield positive results for the university's reputation in industry and its employment rate.
Selected students receive a monthly scholarship of KRW 1,000,000 while enrolled, and are provided opportunities for practical experience through internships and for theoretical instruction during the summer break. In addition, applicants may, after a selection process, pursue a master's degree and then immediately join the company.
Song Cheol-gyu, Dean of the College of Engineering, said, "I am pleased that close industry–university collaboration between the university and companies has expanded opportunities for our students to secure employment in favorable environments." He added, "I hope the high competitiveness of our College of Engineering students will translate into a strong reputation and open more opportunities for students to pursue their futures."
