Professor Lee Jeong-woo (College of Engineering, Division of Mechanical System Engineering) was selected as the leading scholar in the low‑carbon gas field for carbon neutrality and received the Top Award (President's Award of the Korea City Gas Association) from the Korean Gas Engineering Society.
This award is an external commendation presented at the Korean Gas Society 2021 Fall Conference. It is given to researchers who presented outstanding research papers among researchers working on low‑carbon fuels for carbon neutrality.
Professor Lee has made significant contributions to experimental research aimed at carbon neutrality and responding to climate extremes by applying natural gas — which has lower carbon content than conventional gasoline and diesel fuels — and hydrogen, a non‑carbon fuel, to engines.
In 2020, he attempted to apply natural gas to passenger vehicle engines in related research and published the results in the internationally renowned journal ENERGY (IF: 7.147).
Professor Lee conducted this research in collaboration with the Green Power Research Laboratory of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, and he is currently continuing research to reduce the carbon footprint of vehicle powertrains.
