Go Jin-hyeong, a fourth-year student in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (pictured), received the 2021 Korea Talent Award (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award).
Go Jin-hyeong acquired expert-level artificial intelligence development skills while enrolled and won several programming competitions, including the 2nd Oasis Hackathon and 2021 Google DSC Korea.
He was also recognized for nearly ten years of service as an interpreter for the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, through which he has consistently carried out community service, and received the award in recognition of these contributions and achievements.
The "Korea Talent Award" is a representative national talent selection program that discovers outstanding young people who challenge themselves to become future leaders in their fields, encourages their growth potential, and presents awards. Over the past 20 years, approximately 2,200 recipients have been selected. This year, 100 talents were finally chosen nationwide (50 high school students and 50 university students and members of the public).
Go said, "It was possible only with the help of many people in acquiring knowledge in both veterinary medicine and computer engineering. I know this award is not just for me but is for my parents and the teachers who taught me, and I will redouble my efforts going forward." He added, "As an aspiring veterinarian who understands computer engineering, I hope to contribute so that our country can play a leading role amid the global trend of vigorous competition in medical AI development."
