Oh Chung-hyun, an alumnus (24th graduating class) of the School of Medicine, received a Citation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the 16th Korea Overseas Volunteer Awards in recognition of his overseas health and medical activities.

After graduating from the School of Medicine at Jeonbuk National University and completing residency training, Oh served as an international cooperation physician at Santa Rosa Hospital in Peru.

From 2008 to 2016, he worked as a health and medical officer at the Korea International Cooperation Agency, carrying out malaria eradication efforts in Africa, a schistosomiasis project in Sudan, and operating a family planning program in Ethiopia, thereby practicing humanitarianism through overseas health activities.

Since 2017 and continuing to the present, he has served as an otolaryngologist at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Fiji, where he not only trained Fiji’s first otolaryngologist but has also devoted himself to educating primary healthcare personnel.

He also published guidelines on ear disease and hearing care in Fiji and established a hearing testing center, contributing to improved universal access to healthcare for people worldwide.

Through these activities, Oh was recognized for his contributions to improving medical access in vulnerable areas of Peru, enhancing health care conditions in African regions, and caring for patients with ear disease and hearing loss in Fiji.
