Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has decided to award scholarships to students who achieved outstanding results on the recent regular mock TOEIC administered by the Division of Language Education.

This TOEIC excellence scholarship follows a donation of KRW 15,000,000 made recently through the alumni association by alumnus Kim Byung-hun (Class of 1980, Department of Metallurgical Engineering), who currently resides in the United States and expressed his desire to support currently enrolled students with strong English scores.

Accordingly, the JBNU Division of Language Education will select top scorers among students who took the mock TOEIC in the second half of 2021 and the first half of 2022 and award scholarships to them.

In the first selection of outstanding mock TOEIC scorers, a total of 21 students — including one Grand Prize recipient, six Excellence Award recipients, and fourteen Encouragement Award recipients — will receive scholarships totaling KRW 7,500,000. For more details, refer to the Division of Language Education’s Foreign Language Institute website (lec.jbnu.ac.kr).

Alumnus Kim Byung-hun has operated a clothing business under the brand Richcotton in New Jersey, United States, for nearly 20 years. He lives with the aspiration of growing the brand into a global one. He also hopes to make regular scholarship donations to his alma mater, JBNU.

Meanwhile, the JBNU Division of Language Education operates a variety of foreign-language education programs for students and local residents, including native-speaker English conversation classes, official language test preparation courses, and second-language courses such as Chinese and Japanese. It also actively runs Korean-language programs for foreigners.
