The Honam Cultural Foundation (Chairman Heo Jin-gyu), which has long supported various initiatives for local community development, donated 30 million won in scholarships to Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) to support the cultivation of outstanding local talent.
The Honam Cultural Foundation, operated by JTV Jeonju Broadcasting, was established in 2006 and has contributed to local community development by investing 600 million won in cultural and arts programs, academic promotion projects, community cultural initiatives, and scholarship programs.
This scholarship likewise aligns with the foundation's goal of local community development. Training outstanding talent at the region's leading university and encouraging them to remain in the region is the starting point for regional development.
In particular, the foundation decided to donate to JBNU to support outstanding students in the fields of hydrogen, electrical engineering, materials, environmental engineering, and in journalism and broadcasting.
Accordingly, JBNU invited Han Myeong-gyu, CEO of JTV Jeonju Broadcasting and a director of the Honam Cultural Foundation, and other officials to the university at 3:00 PM on December 8 for a ceremony to present the development fund. The university expressed its gratitude by presenting a commemorative plaque and other tokens of appreciation.
The Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation will designate the fund as the "Honam Cultural Foundation Scholarship" and plans to select 15 students from the Division of Advanced Materials Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Environmental Engineering, the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting, and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy Engineering, and award scholarships of 1,000,000 won per semester for two semesters.
On the day, Han Myeong-gyu, CEO of JTV Jeonju Broadcasting, said, "We offer our deep gratitude and support to JBNU, which serves as a pillar of development in the Jeonbuk region. We hope that this will enable outstanding students to study in a good environment and grow into local contributors who can help the region's development."
