Founded in 2010 and having conducted scholarship programs for students in need, the Gyeongcho Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Kim Taek-su) donated 50 million won in scholarships for students at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU).
The Gyeongcho Scholarship Foundation was established to honor the will of its first chairman, the late Kim Jae-ho, and takes its name from his pen name 'Gyeongcho.' Executives of Honam Express contributed the company's profits to a scholarship fund instead of distributing them to individuals to establish the foundation.
The foundation, which has previously awarded scholarships to high school and university students in the province, has prepared the fund this time to contribute to the development of local talent and national progress by donating scholarships to JBNU, a representative regional university.
Accordingly, JBNU hosted a donation ceremony at 5:00 PM on November 25, inviting Chairman Kim Taek-su and other foundation officials. At the event, President Kim Dong-won presented a plaque of appreciation to Chairman Kim Taek-su and expressed gratitude for the donation.
The donated scholarship was named the 'Gyeongcho Scholarship Foundation Scholarship,' and nine scholarship recipients were selected this time. Following the donation ceremony, a scholarship award ceremony was held with the recipients in attendance, making the occasion even more meaningful.
Going forward, the foundation plans to award scholarships to students who excel academically and to those from financially disadvantaged households.
Chairman Kim Taek-su said, "If the region's talented individuals can continue their studies and grow without economic hardship, it will greatly help regional development. I hope that the students who benefit from this fund will grow into leaders of regional development and, in turn, create a virtuous cycle by returning scholarships to others in the future."
