Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Dr. Sadia Ilyas (Department of Mineral Resources and Energy Engineering) and Ph.D. student Sowon Choi (Department of Environment and Energy) received a Paper Award at the 2021 Fall Conference of the Korean Resource Recycling Society held recently.
This award is given to outstanding papers published in the Korean Resource Recycling Society's professional journal in the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021.
The awarded research examined the adsorption effects of bacteria during microbial leaching of metals present in mine waste, a type of waste resource. The study analyzed leaching effects according to contact and non-contact mechanisms between bacteria and the matrix, and was recognized for its excellence.
Dr. Sadia Ilyas is an expert in bio-hydrometallurgy in the field of waste resource recycling. She was invited under the National Research Foundation of Korea's Overseas Outstanding Scientist Recruitment Program in 2019 and has produced active research outcomes since then.
In addition, Ph.D. student Sowon Choi was selected for the National Research Foundation of Korea's Doctoral Student Research Encouragement Grant Program in 2020 and is conducting research in the field of waste resource recycling.
Meanwhile, this research was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea's Overseas Outstanding Scientist Recruitment Program (2019H1D3A2A02101993).
