Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Professor Dongjun Park (College of Engineering, Division of Chemical Engineering) has established a new global collaboration framework to promote international collaborative research.

Since being selected for the BK21 Project Division's 'JBNU-G International Research Collaboration Support Program' in September of last year, Professor Park's research team has been actively pursuing cooperation with leading overseas research institutions.

As a result, the team recently signed an international research consortium MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Professor Brian Eliceiri's research team at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) in the United States.

The agreement was pursued to establish a foundation for research cooperation through international collaborative research and academic exchange, and to sustain mid- to long-term research exchanges.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will conduct collaborative research focused on precise single-vesicle analysis based on next-generation vesicle flow cytometry technology and on vesicle engineering technologies for the treatment of intractable diseases.

For this agreement, recently Professor Dongjun Park and doctoral candidate Seungwoo Jeong visited UCSD in person to deliver the official MOU documents and to discuss future directions for joint research and ways to expand research cooperation with Professor Brian Eliceiri's research team.

Through this international research consortium, Professor Park's team plans to progressively introduce single-vesicle analysis technology into the domestic research environment, expand the applicability of related analytical and process technologies, and systematically establish the technical and academic foundation for conducting collaborative research between the two institutions.

To this end, the two institutions will continue their cooperation over the next five years, focusing on researcher and graduate student exchanges, joint research projects, and exchanges of academic information and technology. This cooperation is expected to contribute to the expansion of international research networks and the strengthening of the research base, and is aligned with the strategy of the Glocal University 30 Project that JBNU is promoting.

Professor Dongjun Park said, 'Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we aim to share research experience and techniques through close cooperation with the UCSD researchers and steadily build the foundation for international collaborative research and the educational and research environment from a long-term perspective.'
