An academic conference to explore strategies for globalizing the traditional cultures unique to the Jeonbuk region was held at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU).
Since 2009, the Institute for International Cultural Exchange (Director: Professor Jin Sang-beom), which has organized conferences examining various approaches to globalizing Korean traditional culture, held an international convergence symposium titled "Strategies for Globalization and Communication" at 10:00 a.m. on June 24 in the Jinsudang International Conference Room. This event attempted to apply interdisciplinary research methods—now recognized as a driving force of the creative economy—to strategies for globalizing and communicating Korean culture.
At the symposium, strategies for globalizing traditional food and Arirang, Saemangeum, the South Coast and the Dadohae archipelago, as well as new strategic measures for inter-Korean unification, were discussed in depth.
In particular, Professor Kim Yong-seok of the Department of Food Engineering at JBNU attracted attention by presenting "Analysis of Taste Correlations among 41 Commercial Makgeolli Varieties Using a Taste Sensor." Thematic presentations such as "A New Paradigm to Revitalize Saemangeum Farmland" by Kim Yong-seong, president of the Korea Convergence Association, were evaluated as proposing a new future for Jeonbuk.
Jin Sang-beom, director of the Institute for International Cultural Exchange, said, 'The symposium seeking ways to globalize Korean culture began from the conviction that if specialists from various fields collaborate, even difficult problems can be solved more easily. It will be a valuable opportunity to properly understand diverse Korean cultures and to establish appropriate directions for their globalization.'
