Our students' passion and spirit of service, hotter than the blazing sun, embrace the world during the summer break.

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held a send-off ceremony for its overseas volunteer activities at the indoor gymnasium at 3:00 p.m. on June 18, formally announcing the start of its activities abroad during the vacation.

This summer, 515 students will participate in overseas volunteer activities. Divided into 15 teams, they plan to share JBNU's values of compassion and service in seven countries, including the Philippines, Nepal, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and Laos.

Among them, the JBNU Overseas Medical Volunteer Team, which has visited underdeveloped countries each year to provide compassionate medical care, will also dispatch its largest-ever contingent. A volunteer team led by Professor Yang Gyeong-mu of the Medical School will conduct activities in Cambodia; a team led by Professor Shin Hyo-geun of the School of Dentistry will conduct activities in Vietnam; a team led by Professor Park Ju-mi will conduct activities in the Philippines; and a team led by Professor Lee Gi-chang of the College of Veterinary Medicine will conduct activities in Mongolia.

Notably, after the send-off ceremony, President Seo Geoseok and the entire volunteer group drew attention by performing a large-scale flash mob to PSY's song "Gentleman," intended to share and reaffirm the values of sharing and love in a global context.

President Seo Geoseok said, "At JBNU, we regard volunteer service as important as education and employment during university life. We require all students to complete a community service course, among other measures, to cultivate talent who combine intellect with a spirit of service. Wherever on earth you practice sharing, never forget that you are always proud members of JBNU, and make it a valuable opportunity to understand others and the world."
