Recently, North Jeolla Province attracted the national seed industry capacity‑strengthening strategic projects—the Private Breeding Research Complex (Gimje) and the Radioisotope Breeding Center (Jeongeup). The Rural Development Administration and its affiliated research institutes, national core R&D organizations in the seed and agricultural life sciences sectors, are located in the innovation city, positioning the province as a national hub for the seed industry.
In response to the growing importance of training specialized personnel for the seed industry, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has launched a program to cultivate seed industry professionals, drawing attention.
In April, JBNU was selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s regionally tailored job creation support program and established the 'Seed Industry Professional Training Course' for the first time this year.
On June 3, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences held an opening ceremony and commenced full‑scale training. On June 4, following the opening, a 'Seed Industry Company Briefing and Variety Exhibition' was held in Building 1 of the College, providing industry–academic–government–research collaborative education.
Organized by the Industry‑University Cooperation Seed Life Industry Academy (Center Director Professor Yoon Seong‑jung), this training will be delivered as a 380‑hour program through August 23. It includes lectures, classroom practicums, industry field training, and cultivation and seed practical training.
Through tailored practical training, the program aims to produce practice‑oriented professionals for the promising seed industry.
Center Director Yoon Seong‑jung of the Seed Life Industry Academy said, 'JBNU’s agricultural life sciences sector has such well‑developed educational infrastructure that it ranks within the global top 100, and we have provided leading education in the seed industry in particular. Through this training, we will do our utmost to produce outstanding talent in the seed industry, such as in varietal development.'
