Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) is undertaking efforts, together with the Imsil Cheese Science Research Institute and the Jeollabuk-do Health and Environment Research Institute, to develop Imsil cheese as a premium product and to promote its globalization.
To this end, the three organizations signed a memorandum of cooperation on May 22 at 2:00 PM in the 8th-floor conference room of the university headquarters. The signing ceremony was attended by President Seo Geo-seok; Kang Wan-mook, Mayor of Imsil County (Director of the Imsil Cheese Science Research Institute); and Kim Jin-tae, Director of the Jeollabuk-do Health and Environment Research Institute.
This agreement aims to revitalize the related industry by applying the research capabilities and infrastructure of the three organizations to Imsil cheese, which is widely regarded as one of the finest in the country.
Under the agreement, the three organizations will share technical information related to the domestic and international cheese industry and dairy processing technologies, and will cooperate on the development of cheese application technologies to support the globalization of Korean cuisine.
To this end, they agreed to jointly undertake research projects and to share information, equipment, and facilities.
President Seo Geo-seok said, 'Our region, which is striving to develop fermented foods into a high-value industry, has great growth potential in this field. In this context, it is highly significant that the three organizations working to advance the food industry have decided to join forces, and this will make a major contribution to the globalization of Korea's cheese and food industries.'
