The research team of the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Medical School (Chair: Im Seok-tae) received the honor of winning the most awards among participating universities at the 2013 Molecular Imaging Society Spring Conference held at Jeju National University Hospital on May 10–12, 2013.
At this conference, the research team led by Professor Jeong Hwan‑Jeong of the Department of Nuclear Medicine submitted two posters titled "Preparation of Lactobionic Acid Conjugated Gold Nanoparticle for Hepatocyte Imaging" and "A Theranostic Nanosystem to Stimulate Therapeutic Angiogenesis for Hindlimb Ischemia Injury in Rats." Both posters were selected as Best Posters and attracted attention at the conference.
The Nuclear Medicine research team is conducting a mid-career researcher leap project of the Research Foundation, a project in radiological medical technology, and a cancer research project funded by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The team is focusing on the development of theranostic agents using nanosystems that enable simultaneous diagnosis and treatment of various diseases and disorders.
This award represents external recognition of the excellence of these research outcomes. The research team is continuing preclinical studies to evaluate efficacy in preparation for clinical trials.
Founded in 2002, the Molecular Imaging Society has become a leading academic organization in Korea for molecular imaging. It brings together researchers from medicine and hospitals as well as diverse fields related to molecular imaging, including biology, polymer engineering, chemistry, genetic engineering, electronic engineering, and molecular biology. The society has steadily gained an increasingly important position in diagnostics and therapeutics. Globally, the World Molecular Imaging Congress is held annually, and since the establishment of the Molecular Imaging Society, Korea has presented many research topics there each year.
