The Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, marking its 60th anniversary, held a commemorative ceremony at the Academic and Cultural Center at 7:00 PM on May 3 to strengthen fellowship and friendship among alumni.

On the day, the ceremony was attended by President 서거석, 차광호, Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Committee (Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, Class of '57 alumnus), 전제성, Chair of the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, and other university and departmental faculty and officials, as well as National Assembly member 전정희, Jeonbuk Provincial Assembly members 이계숙 and 장영수. About 100 people gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary.

Beginning with an opening proclamation by 차광호, the day's program featured a video tracing the department's 60-year history and a meaningful session in which undergraduate and graduate alumni shared their recollections.

In addition, award ceremonies were held for scholarships, including the '유철종 장학금' established in 2006, the '재직교수 장학금' established in 2007, and the '조순구 장학금', which will be awarded from this year, demonstrating warm support for junior students.

In particular, the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy announced a new vision, "Smart Future, Glocal Political Stroll," pledging to enhance educational and research competitiveness and to unite efforts to cultivate talent endowed with both intellect and virtue.

차광호, Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Committee, said, "I am very pleased to celebrate the 60th anniversary with alumni in this full spring," and added, "I hope this has become a forum to reflect on the past years and to seek future leaps forward."

In his congratulatory address, President 서거석 said, "It is precisely the culture of the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy—marked by close teacher–student relationships and devoted support for juniors—that is the driving force to propel our university

into a leading university representing the nation," and he added, "I hope that through today's commemorative event, by humbly reflecting on the days gone by and seriously considering the direction forward, a stepping stone will be laid to vigorously prepare for the 100th and 200th anniversaries."

Meanwhile, earlier at 4:00 PM in the College of Social Science, a 60th-anniversary academic conference on the theme "Research Agendas for the Advancement of Political Science" was also held, drawing attention.

Chaired by alumnus 박동수 (Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, Class of '68; former Vice-President of Jeonju University), the conference featured presentations including a paper by Professor 정영선 of the Law School on "Changes in the National Human Rights System and Research Agendas," followed by topic presentations such as "China's Rise and Research Agendas" by Professor 박종철 of the College of Business and Economics and "The Politics of Welfare and Research Agendas" by Professor 박종엽 of Seoul Christian University.
