Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held a tree-planting event on the afternoon of April 3, ahead of Arbor Day, attended by President Seo Geoseok and members of the university community.

About 200 members of JBNU planted 550 five-year-old pine trees on a 7,000 m² site in the Deokjin Academic Forest on Geonji Mountain.

The area where the trees were planted had suffered extensive damage to many trees last year from Typhoon Bolaven (BOLAVEN).

Every year JBNU plants various species of trees throughout the campus. It is taking an active role in cultivating the Academic Forest in the Geonji Mountain area, which has become recognized as a restorative space for citizens, creating a campus that engages with the local community.

President Seo Geoseok said, "JBNU plants thousands of new trees each year and opens the campus to the public, developing it into an open ecological park where anyone can visit and rest. We will also plant trees and properly develop walking trails in the Academic Forest of the Geonji Mountain area, which is frequented by many citizens, to make this place a popular destination for residents."
