The Center for Gifted Education in Science (Director Cho Kyu-seong) held an entrance ceremony at Jinsudang Gain Hall on March 30, 2013, and launched its gifted education activities for the 2013 academic year.
The ceremony, attended by about 300 gifted students, parents, and supervising professors, featured expert lectures that provided useful information for students and parents.
Dr. Choi Jong-o of the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science delivered a lecture titled 'The Beginning and End of Science and Technology: Measurement!' to students in the elementary and middle school intensive course and those in the middle school mentored course, receiving enthusiastic responses from the students.
In addition, Dr. Im Jae-geun of Daejeon Seongmo Elementary School addressed the parents in attendance in a lecture titled 'Characteristics of Gifted Children and the Role of Parents,' discussing the attitudes parents should take in gifted education.
The yearlong gifted education program will be offered to 173 students in the elementary and middle school intensive course and 67 students in the middle school mentored course. The university's faculty and doctoral-level instructors will provide advanced instruction in science, mathematics, and chemistry. A residential intensive program will be held during the summer vacation, and hands-on scientific experiments and experiential education will be conducted as well as theoretical instruction.
