In 2010, the late Han Su‑ok, Chairperson, who operated briquette factories and, through a lifetime of frugality, donated her entire savings of KRW 4 billion to JBNU as a scholarship, moved many. Two years later, last year, amid the modestly blooming spring flowers, she passed away at the age of 95.

Thus, March 26, one year later, was the anniversary of the late Han Su‑ok's death. That afternoon, to repay the great kindness she had shown through her scholarship activities during her lifetime, officials of the Jeonbuk National University Development Foundation and other JBNU members visited her gravesite in Sangnim‑dong, Jeonju, to perform a proper memorial rite. Students who had received scholarships from her also joined, saying they had been unable to express their gratitude while she was alive.

Attendees set out the food they had prepared at the grave, observed a moment of silence, and laid flowers to honor the generous spirit she had shown to JBNU. The Chairperson's family members who attended also expressed their gratitude to the university for remembering the anniversary and visiting.

JBNU, in accordance with the late Han Su‑ok's wishes, operates a separate "Jeonbuk National University Cheongjeong (淸汀) Scholarship Fund" named after her pen name. The fund continues to provide scholarships to outstanding students and thus carries on her scholarship initiative.

Jo Jae‑cheon, a second‑year student in the College of Veterinary Medicine who attended the memorial, said, "I came to express, even if only a little, my gratitude for the scholarship provided by the late Chairperson Han Su‑ok. To repay the grace she showed in nurturing future generations, I will devote myself to my studies even more, and when I enter society, I will become someone who can give back what I have received."

Meanwhile, JBNU has continued special efforts to honor donors to development funds, such as holding memorial services for more than ten years for the late Choi Eun‑soon and the late Kim Jeong‑suk, who, along with the late Han Su‑ok, donated the savings they had amassed over their lifetimes through peddling with baskets and piecework sewing.
