"I am truly proud to be able to begin the new semester by sharing with neighbors in need."
On Saturday, March 16, when the warmth of spring was fully felt, students of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s Volunteer Service Corps in yellow vests began to gather near the Geumam 2-dong Community Center.
They had gathered to mark the start of the semester, with the Volunteer Service Corps students intending to deliver briquettes to neighbors in need. President Seo Geo-seok, upon hearing of the students' goodwill, joined faculty and staff to lend a hand.
On the day, some 40 people, including President Seo, faculty and staff, and students, visited homes of elderly people living alone near Moraenae. They carefully passed 500 briquettes hand to hand and delivered bags of rice, putting their compassion into action.
Participating students said, "We are filled with pride to be able to start the new semester doing something meaningful. We want to take part in more volunteer activities so that small acts of kindness can bring great love to isolated neighbors."
President Seo Geo-seok said, "I am very pleased to be able to practice sharing together with the students in this way," and added, "JBNU will continue to strive to fulfill its social responsibilities as a regional anchor university."
