Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has rolled up its sleeves to support the stable settlement and employment of married immigrant women.
The International Cooperation Headquarters signed a memorandum of understanding with the non-profit corporation Global Together Gimje (Chairman Choi Won-gyu) on March 12 at 2:00 p.m. and agreed to operate an educational program to enable married immigrant women from multicultural families to work as professional language instructors.
Global Together Gimje, a non-profit corporation sponsored by Samsung, is a social enterprise that supports multicultural families and married immigrant women.
At the signing ceremony, attended by Kim Min-ho, Director of the International Cooperation Headquarters, Choi Won-gyu, Chairman of Global Together Gimje, and 13 married immigrant women who will take the educational program, the parties pledged to expand the region's global language education environment and provide employment and entrepreneurship support for married immigrant women.
Under this agreement, JBNU will actively provide specialized training for married immigrant women to obtain qualifications as professional language instructors and support related to employment and entrepreneurship. In addition, Global Together Gimje will actively participate in JBNU International Cooperation Headquarters' external activities and support projects to help supply excellent instructors across North Jeolla Province and improve the quality of foreign language education.
A married immigrant woman who attended the signing ceremony said, "We are very grateful that the university and the company have prepared this program for those of us who may be marginalized in employment while living in a foreign land," and added, "This support will greatly help married immigrant women who are socially marginalized to settle stably in life in Korea."
Kim Min-ho, Director of the International Cooperation Headquarters, said, "This agreement will be a meaningful step in supporting the stable settlement of married immigrant women in Korean society and in building an excellent pool of language instructors in the region," adding, "We will continue close cooperation with Global Together Gimje and strive to provide practical assistance for married immigrant women's employment and entrepreneurship."
