Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held a retirement commemoration ceremony on February 28 at 11:00 AM in Jinsudang Gain Hall. The ceremony honored faculty members who have devoted their careers to research and teaching for the development of the university and the cultivation of future scholars, and who will reach mandatory retirement at the end of February.
The ceremony took place with approximately 100 people in attendance, including President Seo Geoseok, Vice‑President Jeong Hang‑geun, other university officers, the 18 retiring professors and their families, faculty, staff, and students.
The professors reaching retirement this year are: Medical School Professor Kim Jeong‑su; College of Engineering Professors Jeong Pal‑jin, So Yang‑seop, and Lee O‑yeon; College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Professors Go Hong‑seok and Yoon Se‑eok; College of Education Professors Kang Hee‑seong and Seo Young‑seok; College of Social Science Professor Cho Soon‑gu; College of Business and Economics Professor Yoon Chung‑won; College of Human Ecology Professor Lee Jeon‑suk; College of Arts Professor Lee Sang‑chan; College of Humanities Professors Choi Jun‑seok, Kim Soo‑gil, and Kim Ui‑su; College of Natural Science Professors Kim Mu‑young and Oh Hyuk‑geun; and College of Environmental & Bioresource Sciences Professor Kim Shin‑gi — a total of 18 professors.
At the retirement ceremony, Professors Jeong Pal‑jin, Go Hong‑seok, Cho Soon‑gu, and Kim Soo‑gil received the Order of Service Merit (Green Stripes); Professors Seo Young‑seok, Choi Jun‑seok, Kim Mu‑young, and Kim Shin‑gi received the Order of Service Merit (Yellow Stripes); Professors Kang Hee‑seong and Lee Sang‑chan received the Order of Service Merit (Red Stripes); and Professors Yoon Se‑eok and Kim Ui‑su each received the Presidential Citation.
President Seo Geoseok, in a tribute, said, "Each of the professors retiring today is a scholar who has led the advancement of their fields and has devoted themselves wholeheartedly to JBNU's progress into a leading university representing Korea. Even after leaving the classroom, I ask that you continue to cultivate and shine your lifelong achievements and offer candid advice on the university’s future direction and the development of younger generations."
