Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) will launch education programs that utilize FTAs.
JBNU recently announced that it was selected for the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's 2013 University FTA Utilization Course Support Project and will establish a regular FTA-related course in the Department of International Trade.
The University FTA Utilization Course Support Project aims to establish regular FTA-utilization courses in business and economics departments at four-year universities to cultivate personnel needed in corporate settings.
The course will invite FTA field experts and be structured primarily around practical FTA application and field training. Specifically, it will cover basic understanding of FTAs, explanations of FTA agreements, FTA-related international trade law, origin certification and customs clearance practice, case studies of FTA utilization and business models, and field visits to export companies and customs for experiential learning related to free trade.
Accordingly, JBNU will receive 20 million won annually from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance for instructor fees, field-practice expenses, and course operation costs to operate a course titled Understanding FTA Practices.
In this course, practicing customs brokers and representatives of trading companies will be invited to share practical experience with students. Students will also take origin management classes at the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and participate in field training related to free trade at Gunsan Port and the customs office.
Professor Song Chae-heon (Director, Global Trade Specialist Training Project Group) said, 'Through this Ministry of Strategy and Finance-supported project, a course that had previously been offered only during one semester can now be run year-round,' adding, 'We will further strengthen the course with a focus on practical training so that students can develop into outstanding FTA-related professionals.'
