'I wanted to give back the kindness the late Professor Kim Cheol-jin showed me.'

Professor Seon-Young Oh of the Medical School (Department of Neurology) donated the entire KRW 10 million prize from the 1st Kim Cheol-jin Medical Award to Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s development fund.

The 'Kim Cheol-jin Medical Award' was established when the family of the late Professor Kim Cheol-jin, who passed away in 2011 from a long-term illness, donated a fund of KRW 300 million to honor his wish to improve the academic atmosphere for Medical School students and to promote research among his fellow professors.

Professor Seon-Young Oh published five SCI papers over the past year. Two of those papers, published in the leading journal in the field of neuroscience, Naurology (IF 8.3), were recognized as outstanding, making her the recipient of the first 'Kim Cheol-jin Medical Award'.

Professor Oh said, 'I am very honored to be the first recipient of an award that embodies the late Professor Kim Cheol-jin's noble intentions, as he showed warm kindness to patients, fellow professors, and students during his lifetime.' She added, 'Because this award was given to support the research advancement of junior scholars and fellow professors, I wanted to return the entire prize to the Medical School and to Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) for their development, so I donated the full amount,' explaining the background of the donation.
