    Professor Kyung-Moo Yang Inaugurated as President of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Reconstructive Microsurgery

    Professor Kyung-Moo Yang of the Medical School was recently inaugurated as President of the Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Reconstructive Microsurgery (APFSRM).

    APFSRM is an international society composed of countries in Asia and the Pacific. It is actively engaged in research in the field of reconstructive microsurgery.

    Accordingly, Professor Yang will serve his term through 2014. In particular, the APFSRM scientific congress, a major international meeting, is expected to be held in Korea next year, which is anticipated to contribute to the advancement of domestic research and raise the profile of the field of reconstructive microsurgery in Korea.

    Professor Yang said, 'I am most pleased that a leading international conference in the field of reconstructive microsurgery will be held in Korea next year,' and added, 'While serving as president, I will do my part to promote the development of reconstructive microsurgery in Korea.'

    Professor Yang has served as a plastic surgeon at the National Medical Center, as Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Jeonbuk National University Hospital, as Medical Director of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and as President of the Korean Society for Surgery of the Hand. Since 1995, he has provided free surgeries in rural areas and in developing countries, and in 2011 he received the 'Boryeong Medical Volunteer Award.'
