Graduate students in the Department of Industrial Design at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), Song Ha-young and Choi Mi-ran (Master's Program), won first place in the nationwide promotional poster competition for the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo to be held in 2013.
Under the theme 'Garden of the Earth, Suncheon Bay,' the contest invited works that enable visitors to experience both ecology and culture. The JBNU student team designed a poster that makes the entire expo site appear as a large map, earning high praise from the judges.
In particular, befitting an expo that highlights Suncheon Bay's well-preserved natural ecology, the design was commended for its effort to connect the site’s various experience zones and ecological icons—such as the hooded crane, mud crabs, mudskippers, reeds, children, and flowers—into a single image.
Accordingly, Suncheon City plans to use this poster, after modifying and refining it, to promote the Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo, which will be held from April 20, 2013 to October 20, 2013.
Song Ha-young said, "To accurately convey Suncheon Bay's image as a place where nature, ecology, and humans become one, I concentrated on a simple design that still captures each element's meaning. If our poster can gain exposure through a world-class expo, there would be no greater joy."
