The recipients of the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Alumni Journalist Awards were Jo Sang-jin, Editorial Writer and Senior Reporter of the Jeonbuk Ilbo; Choi Dong-sung, General Affairs Director and Editorial Writer of the Jeonbuk Ilbo; and Hong Su-gi, Chief of the YTN Jeonju Bureau.
The JBNU Alumni Journalists Association, an organization of current and former journalists from JBNU, recently convened a selection committee and announced the 2013 awardees.
They were recognized for more than 30 years of dedication to journalism, for upholding journalistic integrity, and for, as alumni journalists, embodying their alma mater's spirit of 'freedom,' 'justice,' and 'creativity,' thereby contributing to the development of the local community and the nation.
The award ceremony for the recipients will be held at the 'JBNU Alumni Journalists New Year Reception' at Jinsudang Gain Hall, JBNU, on January 10, 2014, at 7:00 PM.
Jo Sang-jin, Editorial Writer of the Jeonbuk Ilbo, graduated from the Department of Law at JBNU in 1979. He began his journalism career as a reporter for the Jeonbuk Ilbo and subsequently served as chief of the education, social, economic, and political sections. He was a recipient of the inaugural Jeonbuk Journalists Award.
Choi Dong-sung, General Affairs Director of the Jeonbuk Ilbo, graduated from the Department of Public Administration at JBNU in 1985. He earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Public Administration and a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Journalism and Mass Communication. After joining the Jeonbuk Ilbo as a reporter, he served as chief of the education, social, economic, and political sections, and as Director of Planning and Projects.
Hong Su-gi, Chief of the YTN Jeonju Bureau, graduated from the Department of Public Administration at JBNU in 1979. He began his career as an MBC reporter, joined YTN in 1995, and served as the News Department's Network Jeonju Team Leader, among other roles.
