Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) will dispatch the largest-ever group of exchange students and overseas volunteer teams during the winter break.
Through the exchange student program 'Global Leader Project (GLP),' which annually dispatches approximately 700 students, JBNU will send a record number of students to partner universities abroad during the break.
A total of 212 students will be sent to partner universities abroad this winter break. Following last year's selection for the ACE Project, support from the ACE Project Group was added from the second semester of this year, more than doubling the number of students dispatched compared with last year.
Students will stay for eight weeks at institutions such as the University of Central Lancashire in the UK and at De La Salle University, the University of Manila, Cebu Doctors' University, and the University of the Visayas in the Philippines, where they will cultivate a global mindset and study languages. They will receive six academic credits.
JBNU will cover full tuition at the host universities and round-trip airfare for the students.
In addition, JBNU, which has practiced acts of charity in developing countries through annual overseas volunteer activities, will dispatch the largest-ever overseas volunteer corps this year.
A total of 303 students and staff will participate in overseas volunteer activities this winter break. This is more than double the number that participated during the summer break, which was 139.
The volunteer teams will visit Cambodia, Nepal, Rwanda, the Philippines, China, and other countries in January to put JBNU's spirit of compassion and sharing into practice globally.
In particular, an overseas medical volunteer team led by Professors Joo Chan-woong and Kim Seon-jun of the Medical School, who have annually carried out acts of medical charity, will provide medical services in Cambodia, the Philippines, and Vietnam from the end of January.
President Seo Geo-seok said, "The Global Leader Project and overseas volunteer activities are JBNU's flagship global talent development programs that enable students to grow into global leaders," adding, "I hope you take the opportunity of various overseas activities during the break to broaden your worldview and build the qualities of a global leader."
