Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has been extending a warm helping hand to people in need at year-end, serving as a model for the local community.

JBNU donated approximately 22 million won in total, including the proceeds from a large-scale charity bazaar held last month and donations collected by university members, to marginalized neighbors in our vicinity.

On December 11, President Seo Geoseok presented a portion of the donations to media outlets, and visited welfare facilities such as Jeongdaun Day Care Center in Deokjin-dong, Dongam Rehabilitation Center, and Sohwa Jindal-ne House, delivering 166 bags of white rice (20 kg per bag). He also provided funds to military personnel and the Korean National Tuberculosis Association, demonstrating warm neighborly care.

In addition, the Employee Council (Chairman Lee Kyung-chun), composed of JBNU staff, also rolled up its sleeves to join the sharing efforts.

On the morning of December 14, the Employee Council held a kimchi-sharing event attended by President Seo Geoseok, Executive Vice‑President Shin Hyo-geun, other senior headquarters officials, staff, and married immigrant women from the province.

That morning at Jinsudang, they made kimchi from more than 1,000 heads of cabbage and directly delivered it to elderly people living alone, child-headed households, and social welfare facilities across the province, putting their compassion into action.

The following day, on December 15 from 10:00 a.m., they visited elderly people living alone, low-income households, and families with disabilities in Palbok-dong, Jeonju, carrying more than 2,000 briquettes and showing their care.

President Seo Geoseok said, “As a regional flagship university, we and our members carry out volunteer activities each year to fulfill our social responsibilities by visiting neighbors in need,” and added, “Going forward, the university will continue to take the lead in reaching out to vulnerable neighbors in the region and will further systematize its social service framework to strengthen support for disadvantaged groups.”
