Professor Lee Hoe-seon, Department of Bioenvironmental Chemistry, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, received the 2012 Hwanong Academic Award presented by the Hwanong Yeonhak Foundation.
The Hwanong Academic Award is given in honor of Hwanong Cho Baek-hyun, a pioneer of modern agricultural science in Korea and the founding dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at Seoul National University. It is awarded to researchers who have made the most outstanding research achievements in the field of agricultural and life science R&D.
Professor Lee, who has demonstrated strong research capabilities in new drug development (anti-diabetic, anti-allergy, gut microbiota, etc.), LED applications, and the development of natural bio-based agricultural extract materials, became the award recipient in recognition of his outstanding research record, including the publication of approximately 170 SCI papers and 50 Scopus papers over the past ten years.
In particular, in April of this year he developed a functional food that lowers blood glucose and can be used to treat diabetes using a component extracted from wheat shoots. This year alone, he has received consecutive Outstanding Paper Awards from the Korean Society for Applied Biological Chemistry, the Korean Society of Food Science and Technology, and the Korean Society of Pesticide Science.
