Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s Iksan Campus will establish a green theme park, including an arboretum and a botanical garden, to provide a space where the university and local residents can interact.

JBNU was recently selected for the 2013 Green Fund competitive program run by the Korea Forest Service's Green Project Group. It has been awarded KRW 500 million in project funding to develop a wildflower garden, an environmental botanical garden, and an arboretum on a 22,929 m² site at the Iksan Campus' affiliated field training site.

Accordingly, JBNU, together with Iksan City, plans to use the site as a learning space for students and local residents. This will provide civic benefits and leisure space to the deteriorated old downtown area while creating a space for communication between the university and residents.

Through this project, the neglected old downtown area of Iksan will be transformed into an ecological learning park for local residents, improving the living environment. It will also form a green network that unites Iksan citizens with the university by enhancing on-campus practical training environments for students.

In particular, because the project site is located in the old downtown area of Iksan where residential houses, apartments, and elementary and middle schools are concentrated, it is expected to be developed as a neighborhood green-sharing forest within the living area that is easily accessible to children, older adults, and people with disabilities.
