Our university ranked eighth nationwide in Industry-University Cooperation operating revenues, entering the national Top 10. Among national universities across the country excluding Seoul National University, it had the second-highest revenues.

This is according to data published on the University Information Disclosure website by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Korean Council for University Education, which disclosed 2011 Industry-University Cooperation operating revenues for four-year universities and junior colleges nationwide. Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) recorded approximately KRW 129 billion in Industry-University Cooperation operating revenues over the past year.

Nationally, it ranked eighth following Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea University and others. Its year-on-year growth rate was 23.9% compared with 2010, showing a large increase second only to Pohang University of Science and Technology.

The university's strong performance in Industry-University Cooperation operating revenues is due to a significant increase in revenue from Industry–University Collaboration research and income from intellectual property management through close cooperation with companies, as well as outstanding results in securing government grants and large national research projects.

In fact, the university earned about KRW 5.8 billion from Industry–University Collaboration research, up from KRW 4.5 billion in 2010; income from intellectual property management and transfers rose by as much as 154% to KRW 1.1 billion; through collaboration with companies the university achieved total revenues of approximately KRW 8.7 billion, a 38% increase compared with 2010.

Also, revenue from government support and other grants increased by approximately KRW 22 billion (23%) from 2010 to about KRW 118.9 billion.

In particular, the university attracted a number of large new national projects since 2011 and achieved strong Industry–University Collaboration revenues. These include the LED Agri-bio Fusion Technology Research Center, a large national project supported with about KRW 19.7 billion; the Honam-region Solar Photovoltaic Testbed Construction Project worth about KRW 7.8 billion; and the Fuel Cell Materials and Systems Advanced-Track Human Resource Training Project Group worth about KRW 2.6 billion.

President Seo Geoseok said, "University-level policies to foster Industry–University Collaboration and the faculty's research commitment, combined with the attraction of large government projects, have worked in concert to create numerous revenue models. These positive results will serve as a catalyst for the university's Industry–University Collaboration to enrich the regional economy and contribute to national development, and we will continue our efforts to that end."
