“If I enroll in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, I can actually build cars like this myself? That’s incredible!”

November 22, Jinsudang. High school students taking part in the large-scale department tours, held together with an admissions information session, test-drove a student-built car displayed by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and shared their individual expectations about university and department life.

A student receiving counseling at the Department of Polymer -Nano Science &Technology said, “The department name was vague, so I did not know exactly what is taught, but having the department professors and seniors explain directly like this made me want to pursue my dreams in this department.”

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) invited high school students and teachers from the province to a large-scale department tour aimed at attracting outstanding talent through organic links between high schools and universities. The event received a strong response; the first floor of Jinsudang was crowded on the first day.

The department tour program, which ran for three days from November 22 to 24, saw major participation from around 10,000 students and 320 teachers from 42 high schools in the province.

This year’s department tour program was distinguished by replacing the passive admissions briefings JBNU had held through last year with an experiential format that allows students and parents to learn more about desired departments in detail. Twelve colleges and 84 departments (divisions/majors) participated. Each department set up a booth and offered department introductions and SG (Study Group) major-experience events, as well as admissions counseling and information, providing a student-tailored admissions information program.

Park Jong-min, Vice-President of the Office of Admission, said, “The department tour program was organized to contribute to strengthening public education by activating high school–university linkages,” and added, “I hope this program, which provided various events including department introductions, major-experience programs, admissions briefings, and counseling, served as an opportunity for high school students to experience and understand university life more closely.”
