Professor Kim Dong-won (Department of Industrial Information Systems Engineering, College of Engineering) received a Commendation from the Minister of Education, Science and Technology at the 2012 Industry–University–Research Cooperation Expo for his contributions to engineering education innovation.

Since 2010, Professor Kim served for two years as Director of the Center for Engineering Education Innovation and as Dean of the College of Engineering. During his tenure, he played a major role in attracting the 'Youth Creative Technology Talent Center,' one of only two such centers nationwide, and the Phase 2 Center for Engineering Education Innovation.

In particular, to effectively implement the Phase 2 Engineering Education Innovation Project, he secured the designation of an 'Engineering Education Innovation Hub Center,' a recognition awarded to only six universities out of 65 nationwide. This achievement made Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) a hub for 12 universities across the country in the field of engineering education.

He was also highly regarded for forming a community for engineering education innovation with leading Asian universities such as UKM (Malaysia), ITB (Indonesia), and TU (Nepal), and for operating a global engineering education innovation program.
