Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) will invite high school students and teachers from across the province to a large-scale department exploration program to recruit outstanding talent through strengthened linkages between high schools and universities.
The department exploration program, to be held at Jinsu-dang for three days from November 22 to 24, is expected to see a large participation of approximately 10,000 students and 320 teachers from 42 high schools in the province.
This program replaces the traditional lecture-style admissions briefings JBNU held until last year. It is differentiated by being structured as an experiential briefing that enables students and parents to learn more detailed information about the departments they are interested in.
Accordingly, JBNU will have 12 colleges and 84 departments (including divisions/majors) participate in the program. Each department will set up a booth and present department introductions and SG (Study Group) major-experience sessions, as well as offer admissions counseling and information provision among a variety of other activities.
In particular, each booth will be staffed by faculty from the respective departments along with current students and other university personnel. Participating high school students will therefore be able to obtain more practical information about the departments they are interested in.
Park Jong-min, Vice-President of the Office of Admission, said, "The department exploration program is an event designed to contribute to strengthening public education by revitalizing high school–university linkages. In addition to department introductions and major-experience programs, the program includes a range of activities such as admissions briefings and counseling. We expect it will provide high school students with an opportunity to experience and better understand university life up close."
