Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) is setting an example by fostering a campus reading culture and practicing neighborly love through a book-sharing event.
The JBNU Library launched a book-collection campaign to share and disseminate knowledge and has collected more than 3,000 books to date.
Among these, the library delivered about 1,000 books that could help foster national identity to Koreans living in the United States, Mexico, Mongolia, and other countries in cooperation with the Association for Sending Books to Overseas Koreans.
In addition, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 24, the Central Library held a "Love Book Sharing" event that received strong support from university members and local residents.
Participants were allowed to take up to three books they wished to read and also participated in fundraising for neighbors in need.
The funds collected that day will be donated as year-end relief for neighbors in need, and the remaining books will be distributed to overseas Koreans and disadvantaged neighbors.
Lee Guk-haeng, Director of the Library, said, "We have held this event for several years because we believe it would be very meaningful to practice neighborly love through books that have been left unread and neglected. We are deeply grateful to those who donated books, and the JBNU Library will continue to actively engage in practicing neighborly love through book sharing."
