'I only hope that the juniors from my alma mater will grow into outstanding talents needed by society.'

People say a decade brings great change. However, his warm desire to provide scholarships to juniors remains ongoing. This year marks the 10th consecutive year that Kim Hyung-nyeon (62, Class of '71, Department of Veterinary Medicine), director of Incheon Central Animal Hospital, has steadily donated scholarship funds to juniors at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) who are studying under difficult circumstances.

Since 2003, Kim has donated several tens of millions of won each year. As usual, he visited JBNU on October 22 and presented 20 million won as a development fund. In February, he also donated 4 million won as a scholarship to the Law School. Since 2003, he has without fail given his alma mater several tens of millions of won in scholarship funds each year.

The funds collected from his annual donations since 2003 have already reached 198 million won. At that time, Kim decided to establish a scholarship fund to support juniors who pursue their goals despite difficult circumstances, and he has maintained that commitment every year.

JBNU has named the fund the 'Kim Hyung-nyeon Scholarship' in honor of his noble intention. Each year the scholarship is awarded to four to six students who are diligently pursuing their studies despite adverse circumstances.

At 11:00 a.m. that day, Kim also gave a special lecture to students of the College of Veterinary Medicine on preparing for professional life and on animal hospital management know-how, which received a strong response.

Kim said, 'After graduating and establishing myself to this extent, I wanted to return many of the things I received from my alma mater to the juniors. Although they face difficult circumstances, there is no greater joy than being able to help juniors who are pursuing great dreams.'

President Seo Geoseok responded, 'We are grateful for Mr. Kim's continued generosity to the university's juniors every year without fail. In keeping with Mr. Kim's noble intention, JBNU will do its utmost at the university level to strengthen educational competitiveness so that students can devote themselves to their studies in better conditions.'

Meanwhile, JBNU has continued to receive various scholarship donations from alumni active across many fields, including Director Kim. As a result, internal scholarships increased from 17.5 billion won last year to 18.1 billion won this year, and the total amount of scholarships has reached 45.6 billion won.
