Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has been honored as a 'Top' university in the Education Capacity Enhancement Project performance evaluation, consistent with its reputation as one of the country's leading teaching institutions.
According to the 2011 University Education Capacity Enhancement Project performance evaluation recently announced by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, JBNU was selected as the top-ranked institution among large regional universities, achieving the distinction of receiving an 'excellent' rating or higher for three consecutive years.
Selected for the Education Capacity Enhancement support project for five consecutive years through this year, JBNU has received KRW 17.2 billion in funding to strengthen its educational competitiveness. With this 'Top' university selection, it will also receive KRW 1.2 billion in incentives since the project began.
JBNU's consistently strong performance in the Education Capacity Enhancement support project evaluations is attributable to its discovery and nurturing of innovative initiatives aimed at improving the quality of undergraduate education.
To date, JBNU has organized the project into detailed areas—scholarship support, employment capacity enhancement, site‑customized education, and global competence strengthening—and has systematically implemented programs that meet students' practical needs.
In particular, programs such as the 'Company Immersion Program' for visiting prospective employers, the 'Reading Cultivation Program' to enhance creative thinking, and the 'Industry–University Tailored Talent Development Program Reflecting College Major Characteristics' for differentiated major competency enhancement have been nurtured as excellent multi‑year programs, earning praise as distinctive initiatives compared with other universities.
Sun‑hee Kim, Vice‑President of the Office of Planning, said, 'The additional funds provided as a result of this year's top evaluation in the Education Capacity Enhancement support project will be used to further strengthen our educational capacity.' She added, 'If we continue to discover and nurture competitive initiatives in line with JBNU's development strategy, they will form a strong foundation for enhancing our educational competitiveness.'
