"On October 4, 'Arts Day,' we hope Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) and local residents will come together through the arts."

The College of Arts (Dean Park In-hyun) designated October 4, during the academic, cultural and athletic events period, as 'Arts Day' and staged a festival featuring a variety of performances and exhibitions prepared by faculty and students.

This Arts Day event was organized by the College of Arts to pursue 'open culture, empathetic art,' bringing together the capabilities of faculty and students to create an opportunity for not only university members but also citizens to engage through the arts. It is significant as a hands-on experiential education opportunity for students and as an occasion where the university and local residents share the value of art.

The event, enlivened before the ceremony by a procession of the marching band from the fountain to the College of Arts at 1:00 p.m., opened with Dean Park In-hyun's proclamation of Arts Day, congratulatory remarks by President Seo Geo-seok, a performance by Professor Kim Seon-ok of the Department of Music, and an opening act featuring choreography by Associate Dean Lee Hwa-seok.

Performances held across locations, including the College of Arts, the Gujeongmun Notification Street, and the Hanok Village Arts Promotion Hall, featured a colorful array of student performances from various departments in the College of Arts, including instrumental recitals, pansori, hip-hop dance, and musical dance.

In performances that incorporated the recent trend of 'convergence' into music, attention was drawn by pieces such as 'Ssukdaemeori' performed with a blend of Eastern and Western music, stages that combined music and contemporary dance, a gayageum ensemble, and collaborative segments blending pansori, operatic singing, and musical theatre.

In addition, student works were exhibited along the streets in front of Gujeongmun as part of the exhibition program, and caricature drawing and face-painting events were held, further enhancing the festival's engagement with the public.

Moreover, a special invitational exhibition commemorating the establishment of Arts Day, featuring leading domestic invited artists—Professors Gye Nak-yeong, Park In-hyun, Shin Young-sik, Lee Gwang-cheol, Lee Sang-jo, Lee Sang-chan, Lee Cheol-ryang, Im Seung-taek, Jeong Hyun-do, and Hong Chan-seok—opened at the Arts Promotion Hall on the day and will continue until October 14.

Park In-hyun, Dean of the College of Arts, who oversaw the event, stated, "We designated October 4, during the academic, cultural and athletic festival period, as Arts Day in order to create a space where university members and the public can fully immerse themselves in and joyfully enjoy art." He added, "It will free art from the stereotype that it is difficult and burdensome and become a venue where people can enjoy it together in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere."

President Seo Geo-seok said, "Arts Day will be an occasion in which not only fine arts but also popular culture are artistically elevated, allowing university members and local residents to breathe in unison," adding, "I am confident that JBNU will contribute to the promotion of local cultural arts and will take pride as a leading university that guides 'culture.'"
