Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) is setting an example by practicing sharing and love with marginalized neighbors ahead of Chuseok, the nation’s largest traditional holiday.

President Seo Geoseok and staff visited the Daun Regional Child Center, a social welfare facility in Deokjin-dong, Jeonju, on the afternoon of the 25th ahead of Chuseok, and delivered 50 bags of rice to reach out to isolated neighbors.

The Daun Regional Child Center is a facility where students with intellectual disabilities live. JBNU, every year on holidays and at year-end, has had President Seo and staff visit this facility to deliver goods and encourage the students.

In particular, as a regional flagship national university, JBNU continuously supports marginalized neighbors, for example by holding a large year-end charity bazaar and using the bazaar proceeds and fundraising by the university community to assist those in need.

In addition, on the 24th JBNU participants in the senior executive program visited facilities such as the Jeonju Infant Home to deliver daily necessities and bags of rice, practicing neighborly love.

Meanwhile, JBNU will hold a 'Grand Chuseok Celebration for Foreign Families' at the Geunji Art Hall in the Samsung Arts Center on September 27 at 3:30 PM for foreign families who must spend the holiday alone in a distant country.

Some 300 foreign students and their families from the university are expected to attend. The event will include celebratory performances, traditional cultural performances, and talent shows by foreign students.

This event has been held since 2003 for foreign families who would otherwise spend the holiday alone, and has received strong support from students as the number of foreign students on campus has gradually increased.

President Seo Geoseok said, 'Members have gathered small acts of kindness for our neighbors and foreign families who may be marginalized by the holiday atmosphere. As Chuseok is the nation's largest traditional holiday, I hope it will be an occasion to look after those in need.'
