With the Hanok Technology Center, the Graduate School of Environment's Hanok Program, and even the opening of a Hanok skilled-workforce training course at the Gochang Campus, JBNU — the nation's leading center for specialized education in Hanok architecture — will partner with Jeonju City to create a high-quality Hanok city.

On September 24 at 11:30 a.m., JBNU and Jeonju City signed an MOU for Traditional Hanok Construction in the Headquarters 8th Floor Conference Room. The ceremony was attended by President Seo Geoseok, Mayor Song Ha-jin, Nam Hae-gyeong, Director of the Campus Development Headquarters, Choi Ki-young, a master carpenter, and others.

The agreement centers on enhancing Jeonju's image as a city rooted in traditional culture by expanding traditional Hanok and landscape facilities and carrying out Hanok repair and maintenance.

To this end, Jeonju City will review sites such as urban parks and provide support for site preparation and construction costs. JBNU will lead projects—centered on the Hanok Technology Center—to install public Hanok buildings and traditional pavilions.

In addition, activities will include Hanok repair and maintenance in Hanok villages, a home-repair program for elderly people living alone and multicultural families, and various volunteer services for marginalized groups, making the collaboration highly meaningful from a public welfare perspective.

Notably, Choi Ki-young, a master carpenter designated as a National Important Intangible Cultural Property who recently signed an agreement with JBNU, will provide consultation and instruction. This is expected to give students studying Hanok construction an excellent opportunity to gain professional practical knowledge.

JBNU and Jeonju City will review project plans and construction sites within this year, carry out pilot installations of Hanok beginning next year, and expand volunteer activities for socially vulnerable groups such as the Hanok home-repair program.

President Seo Geoseok said, 'JBNU operates a variety of specialized programs in Hanok construction and has established itself as the country's premier center for Hanok education. Through close cooperation between the two institutions on Hanok, Jeonju is expected to be reborn as a city that harmonizes tradition and advanced technology, and the collaboration will make a significant contribution to training professionals in Hanok construction.'

Mayor Song Ha-jin stated, 'JBNU, as the region's flagship university, has built a reputation as a specialized educational institution for Hanok construction. I am confident that this agreement with JBNU, which has excellent research and educational infrastructure, will serve as the foundation for reimagining Jeonju as an attractive urban space.'
