Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) awarded the Iljin Scholarship to outstanding students in science and engineering.
At the scholarship presentation ceremony held at the University Headquarters on September 13 at 11:30 a.m., representatives from Iljin Steel, an affiliate of the Iljin Group that donated a KRW 1 billion scholarship fund in 2002, including CEO Jeong Hee-won, attended and personally presented scholarships to the students.
JBNU said it invited Iljin Group officials to the scholarship presentation to honor the donor's noble intention to support university development and talent cultivation and to instill gratitude toward the donor in the beneficiary students.
At the ceremony, Kim Seon-hee, Vice-President of the Office of Planning; Kim Yong, Deputy Vice-President of the Division of University Development; Jeong Hee-won, CEO of Iljin Steel; and Seo Jeong-su, Executive Director of the Iljin Group, attended. Scholarships of KRW 1 million each were awarded to four students, including Ha Man-su from the College of Engineering, Mun Jeong-shin, Yang Ji-hyeon, and Hwang Seong-yeon.
Hwang Seong-yeon, a recipient of the scholarship, said, 'I understand that this scholarship was awarded as a generous contribution from Iljin Group Chairman Heo Jin-gyu to nurture outstanding talent in science and engineering. I will work harder in my studies so as not to disappoint those who provided the scholarship, and when I enter society, I hope to be able to return a scholarship to other juniors.'
