This year, with scholarships substantially increased and the total scholarship amount approaching 50% of total tuition revenue, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s scholarship disbursements are expected to increase further in the second semester.

JBNU announced that it will additionally increase scholarships by KRW 600 million through the Kiseonghoe account and distribute them to students in the second semester.

The additional scholarships were funded by substantially reducing consumable expenses and reallocating interest income on deposits to student scholarships.

A university official said this reflects JBNU’s intention to return revenue gained through fiscal tightening to students, noting that even after reducing tuition by 5.6% this year, JBNU increased scholarships by KRW 14.6 billion compared with last year.

As a result, JBNU's scholarship payout rate relative to total tuition revenue rose from 48.2% to 48.8% earlier this year, meaning more students will receive scholarship benefits in the second semester.

President Seo Geoseok said, "Despite significantly lowering tuition this year and achieving one of the lowest tuition rates nationwide, the university is further expanding efforts to strengthen students' educational competitiveness. Moving forward, we will continue to reduce consumable expenses and, through expanding development funds and attracting national R&D programs, strive to ensure that students can concentrate on their studies without financial burden."
