Professor Dong-Pyo Hong (Division of Mechanical System Engineering, College of Engineering) has been appointed as a member of the Scopus (SCOPUS) Korean Journal Selection Committee.
This follows the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF)’s recent formation of the "Scopus Korean Journal Selection Committee" to select journals for Scopus indexing.
Scopus is an international citation index database comparable to SCI (Science Citation Index). It was launched by Elsevier, a Netherlands-based private provider of academic information, in 2004 and currently provides article information for approximately 19,800 journals.
Accordingly, Professor Dong-Pyo Hong will review many domestic journals seeking Scopus indexing and contribute to enabling excellent domestic journals to gain international recognition.
Until now, researchers had to contact Elsevier individually to submit journal information for Scopus, which was cumbersome. With the operation of the Korean Journal Selection Committee, it is expected that the number of domestic journals indexed in Scopus will increase.
Professor Hong said, "The Journal Selection Committee will evaluate domestic journals submitted for Scopus indexing by domestic societies or research institutes and recommend them to Scopus headquarters. We will carry out our responsibilities and roles so that excellent domestic journals that have not received proper evaluation can be recognized internationally."
Meanwhile, Professor Dong-Pyo Hong has been a professor in the Division of Mechanical System Engineering at our university since 1983. He has served as Executive Director of the Korean Society for Noise and Vibration and as an expert committee member of the National Research Foundation of Korea. He is currently active as a Senior Expert Committee Member at the NRF.
