Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) enhanced its reputation as a prestigious exam-oriented school this year by producing numerous successful candidates in the National Judicial Examination as well as the Certified Public Accountant and Tax Accountant national examinations.
JBNU produced three successful candidates—Kang Mirim (Class of 2010), Park Junghun (Class of 2010), and Nam Sangjin (Class of 2008)—in the recently announced 54th National Judicial Examination, reaffirming its standing as a leading university for producing legal professionals.
In addition, in the 47th Certified Public Accountant (CPA) national examination recently announced by the Financial Supervisory Service, JBNU saw 12 successful candidates, including Choi Geon-su (Accounting, 4th-year student), Lee Yong-gyu (Accounting, 4th-year student), Jeong Dae-ro (Business Administration, 4th-year student), Lee Saerom (Public Administration, 4th-year student), Kang Jong-won (Accounting, graduate), Lee Jung-hyun (Accounting, graduate), Ahn Geun-ho (Accounting, graduate), Choi Hyung-seop (Business Administration, graduate), Kim Yong (Business Administration, graduate), Yoon Jeong-won (Computer Engineering, graduate), Oh Sook-hyun (Mathematics Education, graduate), and Yang Yoo-hee (Mathematics, graduate).
JBNU also produced six 'partial pass' candidates this year—students who scored 60 or above in an exam subject and are therefore exempted from that subject in the next Stage II exam—brightening prospects for the next year.
This result represents the third-highest number of successful candidates among regional flagship national universities. It is more than double the numbers produced by the regional flagship national universities in Daejeon–Chungnam and Gwangju–Jeonnam, which have significantly larger economic bases than Jeonbuk. Among universities in the Honam–Chungcheong regions, JBNU maintained a commanding first place.
In addition, JBNU produced eight successful candidates in the Tax Accountant national examination, reaffirming its status as a university with excellent support for national professional examinations.
The successful candidates include current student Cha Hyun-seok (Accounting, 4th-year student) and graduates Kim Ji-hoon (Business Administration, graduate), Yoon Deuk-jong (Economics, graduate), So Chang-seop (Business Administration, graduate), Kim Kyung-rak (Accounting, graduate), Ko Hyuk-jun (Business Administration, graduate), Chae Ah-reum (Accounting, graduate), and Park Se-hee (Accounting, graduate).
JBNU's ability to produce numerous successful candidates each year in examinations such as the National Judicial Examination and the CPA exam is due to improvements in educational conditions that allow students to study with peace of mind, and to JBNU's comprehensive exam support system—including operating the judicial exam preparation group Jeongyeon Haksa and the CPA and tax accountant preparation group Geonjiheon—which provides systematic guidance.
In particular, observers credit the high pass rates to the continuous strengthening of students' abilities through various external guest lectures, support for video lectures, and weekly mock exams.
Professor Shim Gap-yong, advisor to the Sangdae exam preparation group, said, 'The university headquarters' proactive establishment of an exam support system, the preparation group's systematic guidance, and the students' dedicated efforts—the three elements worked together to produce strong results. In particular, the devoted guidance of full-time advisor Professor Cheon Do-jeong has been a great help.' He added, 'Given the nationally very high pass rates for CPA and tax accountant exams, we will seek to expand the pool of applicants by, among other measures, exploring the operation of introductory CPA and tax accountant programs.'
