"The scholarship project is my final gift for my beloved daughter. Since Jin-young was someone who performed many good deeds during her life, I believe she will watch over this with a joyful heart from heaven."

The late actress Jang Jin-young, likened to a chrysanthemum that blooms late yet retains a long-lasting fragrance. Her warm desire to share the fragrance of learning with many juniors from her hometown has been passed on to JBNU.

To carry on his daughter's wishes, Jang Gil-nam, chairman of the Gyeam Scholarship Foundation and the father of the late Jang Jin-young, visited JBNU on August 31 at 5:30 PM to donate a scholarship fund of 100 million won to President Seo Geoseok. To add significance, the donation ceremony was scheduled around September 1, the anniversary of Ms. Jang's death.

The late Jang Jin-young, who passed away at a young age in 2009 from stomach cancer, consistently practiced giving during her lifetime. Even while battling stomach cancer, she quietly performed acts of kindness, such as donating scholarships to her alma mater, Joongang Girls' High School.

After his daughter's death, Chairman Jang, who had been submerged in deep grief, established the Gyeam Scholarship Foundation to honor her wishes forever and to give back to society the love they had received. For years, the foundation has supported talented individuals from marginalized backgrounds.

In particular, Chairman Jang, who operates Samhwa Chemical, a manufacturer of wastewater treatment products located in Manseong-dong, Jeonju, said he plans to contribute his personal assets to the scholarship foundation in the future.

Chairman Jang said, "In my seventy years of life I have experienced many joys and sorrows, but after my daughter died I came to understand how devastating and sorrowful it is for parents to bury a child. There is no way to measure the grief and anguish of losing a beloved daughter, but recalling the conversations I shared with her during her life, I decided to undertake this scholarship project out of the desire to keep her spirit alive forever."

He continued, "This scholarship, to be awarded to JBNU students, reflects my daughter's wish to give back to juniors from her hometown. I hope the fund will be used wisely by students who truly need it and that many outstanding talents will emerge as a result."

In response, President Seo Geoseok said, "We will ensure that the great legacy of actress Jang Jin-young, who left us with beautiful memories, will live on forever at JBNU. To that end, we will name this fund the 'Jang Jin-young Scholarship Fund' so that many students can remember her beautiful life."

Meanwhile, JBNU will hold an event in September, together with the Jeonbuk Independent Film Association, to honor the late Jang Jin-young and observe the third anniversary of her passing by focusing on her cinematic work.
