"With full support from the University, I am going abroad to study at a prestigious overseas university."

Since 2008, Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has sent students annually to partner universities through its exchange program, the Global Leader Project (GLP). In the second semester of this year, JBNU will again dispatch a large number of exchange students overseas.

JBNU held the 2012 Academic Year Second Semester Global Leader Project send-off ceremony and orientation for exchange students at Jinsudang Gain Hall on August 24, 2012, at 3:00 PM.

This second semester, a total of 167 students will study at overseas partner universities. Host institutions include the University of Sheffield (UK); the University of Canberra (Australia); La Salle University, the University of the Visayas, and Cebu Medical University (Philippines); and Shenyang University of Architecture (China).

At the send-off ceremony, participating students attended an orientation where they received explanations about their host universities and academic schedules for the semester. They shouted words of encouragement together and pledged to grow as global leaders.

The Global Leader Project, through which JBNU dispatches the largest number of exchange students nationwide under a single program, is conducted each semester and during vacation periods to help students improve language skills and develop a global mindset.

Students live at their host institutions for one semester. Through one-on-one and small-group classes they study the local language intensively and experience diverse cultures. Upon completing the semester, they will receive recognition for up to 18 credits.

In particular, JBNU fully covers host university tuition, round-trip airfare, and related expenses for students selected as exchange students.

At the send-off ceremony, Kim Min-ho, Director of International Cooperation (Professor, Department of International Trade), said, "The Global Leader Project is the nation’s largest program for cultivating global talent, which JBNU pioneered. I hope participating students do their best to develop international sensibilities and a spirit of challenge, and use these as nourishment to realize the great dreams they hold in their hearts."
