Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s 2013 academic year Early Admissions Round 1 (Admissions Officer Screening) competition ratio was tallied at 6.8 to 1, a substantial increase from last year.

JBNU reported that applications for four Admissions Officer Screening tracks, including the Keun-saram Track, closed at 6:00 p.m. on August 22. A total of 4,429 applicants applied for 656 openings.

This is higher than last year’s ratio of 5.93 to 1. Analysts attribute the increase to JBNU’s enhanced external competitiveness and reputation in recent years, which is reflected in the higher competition ratio.

In particular, JBNU’s top-tier research competitiveness nationwide and its selection for the Ministry of Education's ACE program, along with government evaluations recognizing it as one of the best teaching universities, are believed to have contributed to the high competition ratio.

By selection type, the Keun-saram Track received 3,192 applications for 396 openings, a ratio of 8.1 to 1; the Regional Harmony Talent Track had 109 applicants for 40 openings, 2.7 to 1; the Rural Student Track had 659 applicants for 127 openings, 5.2 to 1; and the Balanced Opportunity Selection had 469 applicants for 93 openings, 5.1 to 1.

By department under the Keun-saram Track, the Department of History recorded the highest ratio at 33 to 1, followed by the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting at 27 to 1, and the Department of Nursing at 22 to 1.

Meanwhile, JBNU will evaluate applicants to the Admissions Officer Screening through a first stage assessing school records (academic grades) and extracurricular areas, and a second stage of in-depth interviews and comprehensive document review. The university will apply the minimum CSAT requirement and announce the final successful applicants on December 6.
