"Gunsan residents suffering from flood damage, stay strong."
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) recently visited Gunsan, which suffered extensive flood damage from heavy rains, and carried out volunteer activities to share in the hardships of the flood victims.
Approximately 100 people, including President Seo Geoseok, headquarters officials, academic affairs committee members, and faculty and staff, began recovery work at 2:00 p.m. on August 17 in the Naun-dong area of Gunsan, where the flooding was most severe.
That day, JBNU members worked tirelessly on flood recovery, clearing mud-filled roads and removing debris from shops inundated by water.
Also, President Seo and others helped at a nearby bookstore affected by flooding, sorting water-damaged books and equipment to help merchants return to normal life as soon as possible.
The owner of the bookstore said, "The damage was so great that we had no way to deal with it, but the help from so many people has been a great support," and added, "We are deeply grateful to the members of JBNU who extended a helping hand to hasten the flood recovery."
President Seo Geoseok said, "We organized volunteer activities with administrative faculty and staff to fulfill our responsibilities and role as a regional flagship university," adding, "I hope this volunteer effort will offer some support to the residents suffering from the flood damage."
