"After participating in an in-depth interview under the admissions officer system, I feel I now know what to prepare."
On August 7 at 2:00 p.m., in a College of Education lecture hall, sharp questions from Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s full-time admissions officers and the high school students' earnest answers intersected, creating a tense atmosphere.
The mock interviews for the admissions officer screening, which JBNU is conducting from August 7 to 9 for 130 students recommended by 41 high schools in the Jeonbuk region, received a strong response.
The mock interviews were organized to establish and develop the admissions officer system and to identify and recruit outstanding talent through an active linkage between high schools and universities. To help participants properly understand the in-depth interview—which carries significant weight in admissions officer evaluations—interview teams were formed and the proceedings were conducted in the same way as real interviews.
Some 60 people, including JBNU faculty admissions officers, faculty-appointed admissions officers, and full-time admissions officers, participated in the mock interviews. They were organized into three-person teams and, across nine lecture rooms over three days, interviewed students who were divided into a total of 22 groups.
High school students who took part in the mock interviews, including Kim Cho-hee, said, "I was able to get a real sense of what an in-depth interview for the admissions officer selection is like," and added, "I realized that a logical way of speaking that honestly presents oneself is important."
Prior to the mock interviews, Jo Seong-uk, Director of the Admissions Officers' Office, said in his remarks, "It is no exaggeration to say that the proper establishment of the admissions officer system lies in normalizing public education through strengthened high school–university linkages and in securing the fairness and transparency of admissions officer-based selection," and added, "The mock interviews being held this time are intended to strengthen high school–university linkages and to address concerns about the fairness and transparency of the admissions officer selection."
